Mystery Books Inspire - who knew?!

After falling for yet another HBO’s series, Trueblood, I decided to read “The Southern Vampire Series,” which I followed up by a whole string of other mystery novels most notably Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe books. I hadn’t read a Mystery book since they force-fed us Ten Little Indians in the sixth grade, but these Nero Wolfe mysteries were so entertaining and quirky that I felt impelled to incorporate them into some prints. At the same time I wanted to try printing text w/ my images so I decided to use (and misuse) little excerpts from the books with contemporary female portraits. So far, I’ve come up with these:

Recent (?) Installations

The other weekend the boyfriend and I made the trek out to PS1 (MoMA’s satellite space in Queens). I decide it was time to get out and see some new art. And there was some! Specifically there was a fantastic swimming pool installation entitled “Swimming Pool.” It’s by an artist, Leandro Erlich, who does a bunch of surreal and interactive installation work.

Of course, on the way to PS1 you get to walk by 5Pointz – that’s the insanely well-done graffiti building, so I snapped some pics of that as well.

Anyhow, the last installation I saw that really impressed me was last years Cai Guo-Qiang exhibit at the Guggenheim. Apparently I’m becoming more and more interested in the immediacy of installation work.

New Stuff

I finally finished those Brooklyn Bridge stationary sets. They're available in my etsy shop along with some new decorative snake prints.

Good News!

My return to printmaking is going really well. I've started a series of girls with objects. So far I have a "Girl with Umbrella" print and a "Girl with a Red Balloon" print (check out the images bellow). I also made a Brooklyn Bridge block which I'm really happy with. There are already prints for sale in my Etsy store (see link to the right), but I'm planning on doing another edition that will be printed on sheets from the Brooklyn Rail - Brooklyn's art & culture paper. I'm also going to make some Brooklyn Bridge stationary sets, so stay tuned.

Welcome!

Hi,

Welome to my brand new blog! I'm an artist living in NYC. I do oil, acrylic, pencil, and installation work. I love materials and painting on steel when available, but canvas and paper work just fine.

I'm gonna give printmaking a shot. Hopefully I'll have some new prints to show by next week.

Work In Progress . . . .

Work In Progress . . . .
A tryptic on three thin pannels of a girl falling over and falling apart. Resembles a film strip.

Part of a series I'm starting on falling. So far, it's just an acrylic background and a drawing on a 18 x 24 inch board. I've been meaning to do this painting forever now, and I'm really happy with where it's going.
